Exchange members
'At least 7,600 on-line brokerage accounts have been opened in Poland', wrote Parkiet in early November 2000, describing recent changes in the way stock market transactions were being concluded, and how the Web was being used. More and more brokerage houses are offering investors the opportunity to place orders on-line.

It has become standard for brokerage houses to offer additional services - portfolio management or investment advice. Among 38 brokerage houses that were Exchange members (licensed to operate on the Exchange) at the end of 2000, 29 were authorised to operate on the derivatives market.

Three new Exchange members (ProCapital SA, DM POLONIA NET SA and Krakowski Dom Maklerski) were licensed in 2000 to operate on the Exchange. Two brokerage houses (DM PBK and DM AmerBrokers) were spun off from bank structures. DM POLONIA NET took over Dom Maklerski BGK SA. For years, the leaders among the most active brokerage houses have not changed. In 2000, CDM Pekao SA had the largest (13.2%) share in equity turnover. DM BIG-BG SA was second (7.2%), followed by DI BRE Bank SA (6.1%).

In terms of bond trading, CDM Pekao SA was first again (17.2%), Bank Handlowy SA was second (15.4%), and DM Banku ¦l±skiego SA was third (10.4%).
