Information and promotion
'What is HDR? What can 7BC mean? What does WLC stand for?' wondered Rzeczpospolita in its September My Money supplement. [...] 'Effective September 1, 2000, these are code names for stocks listed on the WSE. Each company has received a three-letter symbol (ticker), which is supposed to correspond to its longer name', explained the newspaper.

Major changes also took place in the way market information is disseminated. Since February, distributors of the Exchange's data services (which, in addition to traditional news agencies, now include brokerage houses, Internet portals and software companies) provide information on the Internet in real time. Since December 2000, investors have also been able to access market information via their mobile phones.

In 2000, the WSE's home page (www.wse.com.pl) registered over one million page viewings. Pages with session results were accessed 1.6 million times. This is a 50% increase over 1999. In July 2000, the main page was redesigned. Its graphic layout and architecture were changed, and its contents were expanded to include the WIG20 chart in real time and a market calendar in the form of a bulletin board.

The Exchange School program launched in 1999 continued to develop in 2000. The course encompasses 14 hours of lectures based on materials prepared by the WSE. The lecturers are academics or persons with hands-on experience from local financial institutions. The list of Schools was lengthened in 2000 to include more centres: Lublin (with a branch in Che³m), Katowice, Gdañsk, Bia³ystok, and Warsaw. About 1,700 people participated in 37 courses held at 12 centres.

Dissemination of knowledge about the Exchange was also helped by the 6th Polish Capital and Financial Forum entitled 'Your Money' held in October 2000. This is a combined exhibition and public debate forum with presentations from exhibitors. Over 12,000 people visited and viewed the services and products presented by 207 exhibitors.

In 2000, about 18,000 high school and college students visited the WSE in about 450 groups. Each group saw a 17-minute film about the organisation and operations of the Exchange.
The WSE also co-operates with the Association of Individual Investors (Stowarzyszenie Inwestorów Indywidualnych). By the end of 2000, this organisation had nine regional chapters with 400 members. It has become a partner with Parkiet, Reuters, the onet.pl Internet portal, Penetrator Publishers and the Polish Press Agency (PAP).
