April on the Warsaw Stock Exchange

In April 2004 all WSE indices, except the WIG20 - the large companies’ index, showed a rise. The small companies index – the WIRR – rose the most.

The cash market turnover amounted to 9 180 million zloty and was 20% lower than
in March 2004. On the futures market turnover totalled 10 700 million zloty, 32% lower than in the previous month.

On April 1, 2004, investment certificates of series A issued by KB Dolar Fundusz Inwestycyjny Mieszany (mixed investment fund), with abbreviated name „KBDOLAR”, were traded on the Exchange for the first time.

On April 5, 2004, bearer bonds (series A110) issued by Bank Przemysłowo-Handlowy PBK debuted on the Exchange (abbreviated name „BPHOB0205”).



At the end of trading session on April 13, 2004, indices WIG, MIDWIG, WIRR and WIG-PL reached their all-time highs:

On April 16, 2004, three-year Treasury bonds with a floating interest rate due to mature on May 5, 2004, (TZ0504) were traded for the last time.

On April 20, 2004, a company Doradztwo Gospodarcze DGA S.A. debuted on the WSE. DGA has been on the consulting services market since 1990.

From April 22, 2004, shares of 7Bulls.com, Al - Pras, Ferrum, Ekodrob and Indykpol were moved from the single-price auction system to continuous trading.

On April 30, 2004, bearer shares of series A of the Globe Trade Centre company were introduced to trading by a way of public offer.

On April 30, 2004, the WSE Management Board made a resolution qualifying all Exchange-listed companies to the main or parallel market. The new classification is valid since the first May trading session. At the same time the Management Board qualified the first five companies - BZWBK, KĘTY, MCI MANAGEMENT S.A., MOSTOSTAL EXPORT S.A. and STALPROFIL S.A. - to a Plus segment established within the main market.


From May 1, 2004, all securities listed on the WSE cash market are qualified to the main or parallel market. Admission to one of the WSE markets is done by the Management Board, based on the criteria stipulated - in case of the main market - in Regulation of the Council of Ministers (dated 17 July 2001) on determination of conditions that must be satisfied by official stock exchanges and issuers of securities admitted to trading on such exchanges and - in case of the parallel market - in the Exchange Rules.

Main market
Shares are qualified for listing on the main market if, among others:
- they have been admitted to public trading
- their transferability is not restricted
- they meet relevant value and dispersion criteria
- the issuer has published financial statements for the last three years.

Within the main market, a Plus segment has been established, for which apart from quantitative requirements also qualitative ones must be met:
– observance of all the corporate governance rules
– proper standards of communication with investors.

Parallel market
Shares are qualified for listing on the parallel market if, among others:
- they have been admitted to public trading
- their transferability is not restricted
- the issuer is not a subject to bankruptcy or liquidation proceedings.
Within the parallel market, a Prim segment has been established, for which additional requirements concerning communication with investors and publication of more comprehensive financial reports must be met.

In April 2004, the following listed companies introduced shares to trading on the Exchange: Apator, Netia, Best, Prokom and Computerland.

Changes in the WSE indices
Following the trading session on April 7, 2004, as a result of extraordinary revision of WIRR index list of participants, the WAFAPOMP Company was removed from the index portfolio.

Following the trading session on April 22, 2004, shares of Doradztwo Gospodarcze DGA Company were added to the lists of participants of WIG and WIG-PL indices.
