June on the Warsaw Stock Exchange

In June 2004 three out of six main indices increased. The large companies index – the WIG20 – rose the most.

The cash market turnover amounted to 7 007 million zloty and was 18% lower than
in May. On the futures market turnover totalled 8 816 million zloty, 14% lower than in the previous month.

On 1 June, 2004, the General Meeting of the FESE (Federation of European Securities Exchanges) admitted the Warsaw Stock Exchange to full membership of that organization. The list of new full members includes also the stock exchanges from: Bratislava, Budapest, Cyprus, Ljubljana, Malta, Vilnius, Prague, Riga and Tallinn. Currently FESE has 29 members.

On June 4, 2004, allotment certificates concerning ordinary bearer shares (series C) in Artman made their debut. Artman is a clothing company, with manufacturing operations located outside Poland, mainly in China. The major part of Artman’s products is sold under the brand name “house”.

On June 7, 2004, allotment certificates concerning ordinary bearer shares (series B) in Hygienika debuted on the Exchange. Hygienika is the first manufacturer of articles of personal hygiene to be listed on the WSE. Hygienika’s basic product range includes disposable diapers for babies, as well as women’s hygienic products. Hygienika sells products under its own brands (Bambino, Bambi, and Linell) and brands belonging to retail chains.

On June 15, 2004, 5-year T-bonds with a fixed interest rate and maturing on June 1, 2009 (abbreviated name SP0609) were quoted on the Exchange for the first time.

On June 16, 2004, bearer bonds (series A112) issued by Bank Przemysłowo-Handlowy PBK S.A. (abbreviated name „BPHOB0405”) were introduced to trading on the Exchange.

On June 16, 2004, at WSE headquarters, representatives of the Polish capital market, at a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr Igor Chalupec, officially announced the start of the implementation of Agenda Warsaw City 2010 - the strategy concerning further development of the Polish capital market until 2010.

Starting from the trading session of June 17, 2004, the Exchange Management Board suspended trading in Huta Oława shares, and from June 22, 2004 – de-listed those shares, following the decision of the Polish Securities and Exchange Commission regarding the withdrawal of Huta Oława shares from public trading.

On June 23, 2004, the Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders of the Warsaw Stock Exchange approved the WSE Management Board’s annual report, as well as the Exchange’s financial statements for the year 2003. The Meeting elected Prof. Edmund Pietrzak as a new member of the Exchange Supervisory Board.
June 29, 2004, was the last trading day for allotment certificates concerning ordinary bearer shares (series B) in JC Auto. On June 30, 2004, shares of series B in this company made their debut. The shares are traded in the continuous trading with the abbreviated name JCAUTO and the ticker symbol JCA.
On June 30, 2004, allotment certificates concerning ordinary bearer shares (series C) in Artman were traded for the last time. Bearer shares of series C in Artman were introduced to trading on July 1, 2004.
In June 2004, the following companies’ shares were introduced to trading on the Exchange: Pfleiderer Grajewo S.A., Computerland, GTC S.A., Invar&Biuro System S.A., Optimus S.A., JC Auto S.A. and Hygienika S.A.

Changes to the WSE indices

Following the June 16, 2004, trading session, as a result of extraordinary adjustment of the WIG and WIG-PL indices, OŁAWA shares were removed from their portfolios.

Following the trading session on June 18, 2004, adjustments of the main index portfolios took place. As a result, in the WIG20 portfolio Cersanit was replaced with the stock of Stalexport. In the MIDWIG portfolio, Stalexport, Prosper and Relpol were replaced by Cersanit, MCI and Śnieżka.
The TechWIG index portfolio was expanded by the inclusion of Betacom and Techmex shares.

Ekodrob became a new participant of the WIG index, while Okocim was excluded from the index portfolio. Mieszko, Tras Tychy and Betacom were moved from the WIG to the WIRR index. Additionally, Arksteel was excluded, while Wafapomp and Energomontaż Północ were added to the WIRR index portfolio.

Okocim, Szeptel, Plastbox, Betacom, Swarzędz and Mieszko were excluded from the WIG-PL index and Ekodrob, Hutmen, Telmax and Permedia became new participants of this index.
