September on the Warsaw Stock Exchange

September 2005 saw all main WSE indices rise. The index, which increased the most, was the blue chip index – the WIG20.



Among all listed companies 122 showed positive rates of return.



Cash market turnover amounted to PLN 24 020 m and was 68% higher than in August. On the futures market turnover totalled PLN 32 710 m and was 40% higher than in the previous month.

On September 1, 2005, the volume of trading in options totalled 2,951 options per session, setting a new all-time high for this instrument.

On September 17, 2005, the allotment of 290,000,000 shares of the new issue of the Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo (PGNiG) offered within the individual investors’ tranche took place. In the process of the public subscription of PGNiG shares 63,475 buy orders were placed for the total number of 4,001,584,494 shares. The average reduction rate for buy orders placed during the First Period reached 92.638%. The average reduction rate for buy orders placed during the Second Period reached 96.319%.

On September 22, 2005, Barlinek company debuted on the Exchange. 78,800,000 ordinary bearer shares of the A, B, D, E, F, G, H and I series (abbreviated name “BARLINEK” and ticker symbol “BRK”), as well as 8,000,000 allotment certificates for shares of the J series (abbreviated name „BARLINEK-PDA” and ticker symbol “BRKA”) were introduced to trading.
The company’s primary product is Barlinek floorboard, which is a three-layered flooring made of the high-quality local wood species as well as exotic wood with the glueless installation system, so-called “barclick”. Barlinek manufactures also mosaic and classic parquets in addition to solid wood floors, sport flooring and ecological veneers.

On September 22, 2005, the second remote Exchange member – Czech firm WOOD & Company Financial Services a.s. – started its operational activity on the Exchange. It is the sixth company allowed to operate as a remote member on the WSE by its Supervisory Board.

On September 23, 2005, PGNiG company debuted on the Exchange. 900,000,000 allotment certificates for ordinary bearer shares of the B series (abbreviated name “PGNIG-PDA” and ticker symbol “PGNA”) were introduced to continuous trading. It was the third biggest IPO in terms of value in the WSE history – the company sold shares for nearly PLN 2.7 bn.
PGNiG is the biggest Polish company operating on the Polish natural gas exploration and production market and the only vertically integrated company in the Polish gas sector. In 2004 the PGNiG capital group, whose most important subsidiaries are the PGNiG company, 6 Gas Distribution Companies and EuRoPol GAZ (the transmission company) extracted 4.3 bn m3 of natural gas and 644 thousand tons of crude oil.

On September 23, 2005, 1-year bearer bonds of the A117 (BPH S.A.) series maturing on October 11, 2005 (BPHOB1005) were traded on the Exchange for the last time.

From September 23, 2005, the name of STER-PROJEKT company was changed to ABG STER-PROJEKT. The company shares are hence listed under abbreviated name “ABG” and ticker symbol “ABG”.

On September 27, 2005, the seventh foreign company – SkyEurope Holding AG – debuted on the Exchange. 20,000,000 ordinary bearer shares (abbreviated name “SKYEUROPE” and ticker symbol “SKY”) were introduced to trading.
SkyEurope is a low-cost airline. It operates a route network of 28 destinations in 16 countries from its Central European bases in Budapest, Cracow, Warsaw and Vienna-Bratislava.

On September 28, 2005, the volume of trading in futures totalled 47,501 contracts per session, setting a new all-time high for this instrument.

In September 2005, shares of the following companies (already-listed on the WSE) were introduced to trading: HOGA, POLICE, IDM SA, PROVIMI-ROLIMPEX, SPRAY, TRAS-INTUR and MOL.

In the first three quarters of 2005 28 companies (including two foreign ones) were listed for the first time on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The companies sold shares worth of nearly PLN 6.5 bn. The first quarter saw the most of IPOs – 11 debuts. However, the best, in terms of IPO’s value, was the third quarter, when the value of debuts exceeded PLN 3.35 bn, mainly due to the PGNiG issue worth of PLN 2.6 bn.

Changes in the WSE indices

Following the trading session of September 2, 2005, the Exchange performed an extraordinary adjustment of the list of participants of WIG and WIG-PL. As a result, the shares of POLIGRAFIA company were removed from these indices.

Following the trading session of September 8, 2005, portfolios of the WIG and WIG-PL indices were supplemented with shares of POLICE company.

Following the trading session of September 14, 2005, the SPRAY company shares were added to the WIRR index portfolio.

Following the trading session of September 16, 2005, the Exchange performed a quarterly review of the main indices participants’ lists.
As a result, in the WIG20 index portfolio SWIECIE company was replaced by LOTOS company. BCHEM, IVAXCORP, FORTE, SOKOLOW and INTERCARS companies were removed from the MIDWIG index portfolio, while BIOTON, POLMOSBIA, SWIECIE, OPOCZNO and AMREST were introduced to this index portfolio.
There were no changes to the list of participants of TechWIG index.
ALCHEMIA and BEDZIN companies were transferred from the WIRR index to the WIG index, while MIESZKO, UNIMIL, ALMA and LENTEX companies were transferred from the WIG index to the WIRR index. PROCHNIK and POLNA company became new participants of the WIRR index, whereas FON company was removed from this index. ALCHEMIA, INTERIA.PL, MOSTALWAR and PUE companies joined the WIG-PL index, while PROSPER, IRENA, KABLE, DGA, OPTIMUS and SRUBEX companies were removed from this index.

Following the trading session of September 19, 2005, the Exchange performed an extraordinary adjustment of the list of participants of WIG and WIG-PL. As a result, the shares of ORFE company were removed from these indices.

Following the trading session of September 26, 2005, portfolios of the WIG and WIG-PL indices were supplemented with shares of BARLINEK company.
