October on the Warsaw Stock Exchange

October 2005 saw all WSE indices – apart from WIG and WIG20 – rise. The index, which increased the most – by more than 4% - was the National Investment Funds Index (NIF)



Among all listed companies 96 showed positive rates of return.



Cash market turnover amounted to PLN 20,424 m and was 15% lower than in September. On the futures market turnover totalled PLN 30,239 m and was 8% lower than in the previous month. October was the second best month of 2005 in terms of the turnover.




On October 3, 2005, the convertible bonds of Citibank N.A., exchangeable for shares Bank Handlowy SA were introduced to trading. The Citibank bonds are the first instrument on the Polish market to be quoted and settled in USD.

On October 5, 2005, PC Guard company debuted on the Exchange. 500,000 ordinary bearer shares of the A and B series (abbreviated name „PCGUARD” and ticker symbol “PCG”), as well as 500,000 allotment certificates for shares of the C series (abbreviated name „PCGUARD-PDA” and ticker symbol “PCGA”) were introduced to trading.
PC Guard was qualified to the Segment for Innovative Technologies – SiTech – and according to § 40 further to § 31 point 2 of the WSE Rules for the Regulated Unofficial Market (parallel market) the company shares are listed in the PRIM segment of this market. The company develops and implements IT solutions supporting the management process, under the common name Graffiti.

On October 5, 2005, the convertible bonds of SAGITTARIUS – STRZELEC S.A. company (abbreviated name STCOB0409) were quoted for the last time on the Exchange.

On October 6, 2005, the session trading volume for futures totalled 54,877 contracts, setting a new all-time high for the instrument.

On October 10, 2005, a Hungarian brokerage house CONCORDE SECURITIES LIMITED started its activities as a remote member of the Exchange.

From October 13, 2005, the MUZA S.A. company was moved to continuous trading (from the single-price auction system with two auctions daily).

Between October 13 and 15, 2005, the 11th Capital and Investment Forum - Your Money - was held in Warsaw. Exhibition, presentations and public debates attracted many visitors.

On October 13, 2005, the allotment of 1,876,500 shares of the new issue of the Zakłady Azotowe Puławy offered within the individual investors’ tranche took place. In the process of the public subscription for ZA Puławy shares in the individual investors’ tranche 14,734 buy orders were placed for the total number of 46,914,817 shares. The allotment was made at the price of PLN 54 per share. The average reduction rate for buy orders equalled 96%.

On October 14, 2005 the session volume of trading for options amounted to 4,883 contracts and was the highest since the launch of this instrument on the Exchange.

On October 17, 2005 investment certificates of the series A issued by KBC ZLOTY DOLAR FUNDFUSZ INWESTYCYJNY ZAMKNIETY (closed-end investment fund) were quoted for the first time on the Exchange (abbreviated name KBCZDRFIZ).

On the trading session of October 17, 2005, a new instrument – stock options debuted on the Exchange. The options based on stocks of the following five companies – PKN Orlen, Telekomunikacja Polska, KGHM, PROKOM and PeKaO – were made available for trading. On the first day, the volume of trading amounted to 86 contracts and the value of turnover reached PLN 117.35 thousands.

On October 18, 2005, 1-year bearer bonds of the A123 (BPH S.A.) series, maturing on July 11, 2006 (BPHOB0706), were traded on the Exchange for the first time.

From October 18, 2005, the INSTAL KRAKÓW S.A. company was moved to the continuous trading system (from the single-price auction system with two auctions).

On October 19, 2005, ZAKŁADY AZOTOWE PUŁAWY company debuted on the Exchange. 5,515,000 allotment certificates for ordinary bearer shares of the B series (abbreviated name „PULAWY-PDA” and ticker symbol “ZAPA”) were introduced to trading on the Exchange main market. The company ZA PUŁAWY activity concentrates on production of fertilizers and other non-fertilizer products (mainly chemical products), which reach the end users, or are meant for further processing.

On October 20, 2005, 3-year T-bonds with a floating interest and maturing on November 5, 2005 (TZ1105) were traded on the Exchange for the last time.

On October 20, 2005, 1-year bearer bonds of the A118 (BPH S.A.) series, maturing on November 8, 2005 (BPHOB1105), were traded on the Exchange for the last time.

On October 20, 2005 Tell Company debuted on the Exchange. 350,000 allotment certificates concerning ordinary bearer shares of the series B were introduced to trading on the main market (abbreviated name TELL-PDA, ticker TELA). TELL company is a Poland-wide authorised dealer of PTK Centertel. It is active on the retail mobile phone sale market.

From October 28, 2005, following the change of the company from COMP RZESZOW to ASSECO POLAND shares of this company are quoted under a new abbreviated name “ASSECOPOL” and ticker “ACP”.

On October 28, 2005 the allotment of shares of the new issue of the Swissmed S.A offered within the Individual and Institutional tranche took place. The allotment of shares in case of orders placed in the Individual tranche was made at the price of 2.80 PLN:
  • 714,286 shares were allotted in the Institutional tranche
  • 44,301 shares were allotted in the Individual tranche.

    On October 31, 2005, at the closing of trading the MIDWIG index set its new all-time high: 1,935.45 points.

    In October 2005, shares of the following companies (already-listed on the WSE) were introduced to trading: AGORA, SOFTBANK, PGF, CERAMIKA NOWA GALA, BRE, COMPUTERLAND, BARLINEK and PGNiG.


    Changes in the WSE indices

    Following the trading session of October 24, 2005, portfolios of the WIG and WIG-PL indices were supplemented with shares of PGNiG company.

    Following the trading sessions of October 25 and of October 27, 2005 the Exchange performed the extraordinary adjustments of the lists of participants of – respectively – WIG, WIG-PL WIG-FOOD indices and MIDIWG indices. As a result, shares of ŻYWIEC company were removed from all four indices.
