WIG-Ukraine
WIG-Ukraine: The First Such Index in Europe.
- The WSE calculates and publishes a new index WIG-Ukraine as of 4 May
- The sixth Ukrainian company debuts on the WSE Main Market
- The WSE ready to admit more issuers from Eastern markets
The Warsaw Stock Exchange starts to calculate and publish the national index WIG-Ukraine as of 4 May 2011. This will be the first and only index outside Ukraine whose portfolio will comprise only Ukrainian stocks.
The WIG-Ukraine index will be the second national index calculated by the Exchange after the Polish stock index WIG-PL, published by the WSE since December 2003, which will become WIG-Poland as of 4 May 2011.
The WIG-Ukraine index portfolio comprises the following stocks (revision as at 28 February 2011):
| No. | STOCK | NUMBER OF SHARES | WEIGHT (%) |
| 1 | KERNEL | 11 411 000 | 40,00 |
| 2 | ASTARTA | 7 756 000 | 30,66 |
| 3 | MILKILAND | 8 500 000 | 15,45 |
| 4 | AGROTON | 5 670 000 | 8,92 |
| 5 | SADOVAYA | 10 771 000 | 4,96 |
The Ukrainian stock index has been developed due to a growing number of Ukrainian issuers listed on the WSE. Industrial Milk Company is the seventh Ukrainian company listed on WSE trading floors and the sixth stock on the Main Market.
Strong interest of Ukrainian companies in the Warsaw Stock Exchange is mainly a result of consistent implementation of the WSE strategy focused on attracting foreign companies to the trading floors in Warsaw, especially companies from Eastern markets. The debut listing of the first Ukrainian company in 2006, the agreement signed with the first Ukrainian WSE IPO Partner in 2006, the opening of the WSE representation office in Kiev in 2008, the launch of the website www.wseinternational.eu devoted to foreign companies listed on the WSE, as well as the Ukrainian stock index created in 2011 are only some of the events initiated and completed by the WSE in order to establish closer relations with Ukrainian businesses.
“The WSE Ukrainian stock index is the first index of its kind in Europe outside Ukrainian stock exchange indices. The intention of the WSE is to give Polish and international investors yet another important investment tool. The index represents the strategic importance of Ukraine business on the WSE and attracts the attention of international market participants to the WSE,” said WSE CEO Ludwik Sobolewski.
WIG-Ukraine Index
The WIG-Ukraine index portfolio will comprise companies listed on the WSE Main Market which have a registered office in Ukraine or a Ukrainian subsidiary which constitutes the main part of the holding structure with a registered office outside Ukraine. Similar to other indices, WIG-Ukraine index companies need to have at least 10 percent free-float shares and belong to one of the following WSE Main Market segments: 250PLUS, 50PLUS or 5PLUS. The index will be revised on a quarterly basis. New issuers may be added to the index portfolio after three trading sessions since the debut listing. WIG-Ukraine is a total return index as it includes dividends and subscription rights. The index base date is 31 December 2010 and the index base value is 1,000 points.
Like WIG-Poland, WIG-Ukraine is published on a single-price basis: after the first and the second fixing and after the session close.
