Jakub Karnowski Appointed to the Exchange Supervisory Board
The Extraordinary General Meeting of the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE) has supplemented the composition of the Exchange Supervisory Board for the current term of office. Jakub Karnowski has been appointed as a new member of the Board.
On 10 September 2026, the Extraordinary General Meeting of the Warsaw Stock Exchange adopted a resolution appointing Jakub Karnowski to the Exchange Supervisory Board, bringing its membership to seven persons.
Jakub Karnowski brings extensive experience in the financial sector, public administration, and corporate management. Throughout his professional career, he has actively participated in supervisory bodies, serving as an independent member of supervisory boards and as chair of audit and risk committees, including at HSBC Bank Polska (2015–2019), Allianz Polska (2017–2024), and PZU (2014–2016). Between 2018 and 2024, he served on the Supervisory Board of Ukrposhta, acting as its Chairman from 2021 to 2024. From 2021 to 2024, he was also an independent member of the Supervisory Board of Ukrzaliznytsia. Since 19 August 2024, he had served as First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of KredoBank. On 21 February 2025, following approval by the National Bank of Ukraine, he was appointed by the Supervisory Board as Chief Executive Officer of the bank and assumed the position on 1 March 2025.
He began his professional career as an advisor and subsequently Head of the Political Cabinet of Leszek Balcerowicz, Minister of Finance of the Republic of Poland from 1997 to 2000. He also served as Advisor on Euro Adoption and Director of the Foreign Department at the National Bank of Poland (NBP). Between 2001 and 2003, he was a member of the Foreign Exchange Reserves Investment Committee. From 2003 to 2008, he held the position of Alternate Executive Director at the World Bank Group. He then served as President of the Management Board and Chairman of the Investment Committee of PKO TFI (2008–2012). Between 2012 and 2015, he was President of the Management Board of PKP S.A., overseeing investment programmes as well as restructuring and privatisation processes. From 2016 to 2019, he headed the private investment group Luma Investment as Chief Executive Officer.
Jakub Karnowski is also actively engaged in academia. He graduated from the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH), earning a Master’s degree in Economics in 1997 and a PhD in Economics in 2004. He also completed an MBA programme delivered jointly by the Carlson School of Management and the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Currently, he serves as Head of the Department of Liberal Economics, mentors the Students for the Reconstruction of Ukraine Association, and is a member of the Ukraine Expert Panel at the World Bank.
The Exchange Supervisory Board is the body responsible for the ongoing supervision of the activities of the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The Board serves a joint three-year term of office, and its meetings are held at least once every quarter.
