A celebration of the 3rd May Constitution Day commemorating the 223rd anniversary of the declaration of the first constitution in Europe was held in the gardens of the Polish Embassy in Vienna on 7 May 2014.
The year 2014 is the anniversary of many important and unique events in the history of Poland; therefore, this year’s celebration of the 3rd May Constitution Day was combined with promotion of the economic transition in Poland in the last 25 years and the 10th anniversary of Poland’s accession to the European Union.
“We should be proud of the achievements of the last 25 years of free Poland. As Central European market leaders, Warsaw Stock Exchange and Polish Power Exchange are a symbol of the success,” said Ambassador Artur Lorkowski.
Despite rainy weather, the Embassy and its gardens hosted nearly 500 guests including diplomats and politicians, representatives of international organisations situated in Vienna, Ministries, the Parliament, the Office of the President of Austria, the media, as well as managers of large Austrian companies, representatives of business institutions, journalists of the leading Austrian newspapers and members of the Polish diaspora in Austria.
The guests of the event could visit the exhibition entitled “What Are You Like?” which introduces a picture of contemporary Poles as seen by Austrian students of media schools and a picture of Austria as seen by their peers in Poland.
“This year’s celebration of the 3rd May Constitution Day takes place in a very important year in Poland. It is the 25th anniversary of the fall of communism in Europe and, consequently, 25 years of economic transition. Without the events of 1989, there would be no free-market economy and no Warsaw Stock Exchange. We are glad that WSE and the Polish capital market are developing so dynamically and that we can be a natural partner of the celebration,” said Paweł Graniewski, Vice-President of the Management Board of WSE, in Vienna.
